Finally an upgrade to my website! Old GRAV CMS has been replaced by hugo and PaperMod! Static websites should be more secure when I next time forget to update the server for next half a decade.
Why upgrade?
Well I forgot what was running my old website. I just pay for the server in advance and setup auto updates. Fire and forget DOES NOT work always. End result: You have a box running Ubuntu LTS 18.04. Log screaming for years that support has ended in 2023 and please upgrade.
Whoops…
Backend config was done by VestaCP WHICH WAS ABANDONED WHEN I INSTALLED IT… So no updates after 2021 and I notice this in 2026. Not my brightest moment.
Nuke the server and start over.
New setup
Latest LTS Ubuntu which was available. Setup cron job for updates. And install nginx only!
Neat thing is even the free AI’s can now help even this idiot to configure ssl and the website easily. Now just fill it with content.
Which leads nicely to this platform!
Claude and Gemini both suggested that I try this “new” solution called static websites. New as in standard everywhere for past decade. Combine that with PaperMod which seemed like a neat theme.
We shall see how it holds up to time!
